Blepharitis

BlephEx™ is a treatment to clean and exfoliate the eyelids and lashes that are experiencing blepharitis. This painless procedure involves the use of a tiny, spinning sponge that is placed along the edge of your eyelashes (your eyelid margin) to remove crustiness, debris, bacteria, biofilm and bacterial toxins that have become trapped on the eyelashes. It’s a quick procedure that can be very effective at improving the appearance of the eyes while not damaging sensitive eye glands. In fact, it’s the only eyelid cleaning procedure available.

What is Blepharitis?

Blepharitis is an inflammatory eyelid condition caused by a bacterial infection that can clog small oil glands near the eyelashes. It can also be caused by dandruff of the eyebrows or scalp, malfunctioning oil glands, rosacea, allergies or eyelash mites or lice.

Appearance of Blepharitis

Although this is not a serious or contagious condition, it is not pleasant looking or feeling. If you have blepharitis, you can experience:

  • Greasy eyelids
  • Crusted eyelashes
  • Excessive watering
  • Redness
  • Swollen eyelids
  • Burning and stinging sensation
  • Flaking of the skin around the eyes
  • Light sensitivity

BlephEx Maintenance

Depending on the severity of your blepharitis, you may need ongoing treatments of BlephEx to keep the area clean – every 4-6 months. This procedure, combined with daily eyelash hygiene practices at home, should help control your condition. The BlephEx procedure must be performed in our office – it is not an at-home treatment.

If you are experiencing any of the blepharitis symptoms listed above, contact our office to schedule an appointment to learn more about BlephEx treatment.
