At Azul Vision, we offer eyelid surgery to patients who are experiencing droopy eyelids (upper or lower) or bags under the eyes. Also known as blepharoplasty, this is an effective surgical procedure to lift heavy eyelids or tighten lower eyelid skin so you can see better and/or look younger and more alert.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

The process involves making small incisions in the natural creases of your eyelids in order to remove excess skin, fat and muscle that has begun to sag. Our doctors may only need to remove a small amount of tissue to create a natural-looking appearance. 

Lower Eyelid Surgery

During lower eyelid surgery, incisions may be made on the outer edge of the lower eyelid in order to remove fat and create a smoother contour. It may also be necessary to remove sagging skin or tighten the eyelid muscles to achieve the best results.

Things to Know About Eyelid Surgery

• Stop smoking a month before and after your surgery to reduce your risk of complications.
• This outpatient surgery typically takes 2 hours or less.
• Plan to rest at home for about 2 weeks. Your eyes will be bruised, swollen and sore during this time.
• Cold compresses, lubricating ointments and medications will provide comfort during the healing process.
• You may experience temporary blurry vision as you heal.

• Give your eyes time to adjust. You may need to reduce your time at a computer for a while as your eyes fully recover.
• Wear sunglasses and sunscreen when you are outside to protect your eyelids.
• Avoid strenuous activities for 4 weeks after surgery to reduce your risk of complications.
• Insurance may not cover eyelid surgery if it is only done for cosmetic reasons.
• Eyelid surgery will not treat dark circles under your eyes or wrinkles around your eyes.
