Dr. Brittany Powell, M.D., FACS, is a highly respected vitreoretinal surgeon with over ten years of specialized expertise in retinal diseases and ocular trauma. As a Vitreoretinal Surgeon and Clinical Faculty member at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD), Dr. Powell provides advanced retinal care while training the next generation of ophthalmologists in cutting-edge procedures and practices.
After earning her medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Dr. Powell completed her ophthalmology residency and a fellowship in vitreoretinal disease at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai. She has since led key military medical programs, including the Warfighter Refractive Surgery Program and multiple quality initiatives, and now serves as Regional Lead for the Ocular Trauma Center. In this role, she directs policies and programs that enhance eye care for Department of Defense beneficiaries and veterans, providing comprehensive support for those with complex ocular conditions.
Outside her clinical work, Dr. Powell has a deep appreciation for the arts, stays active through regular fitness, and contributes her expertise to global health initiatives, expanding access to retinal care worldwide.
