Robert Smyth-Medina was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Mexico City, where he attended medical school. After completing his education in Mexico, he returned to the United States to pursue an Ophthalmology residency at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. Following his residency, he has been working at North Valley Eye in the San Fernando Valley.

He is married and has two daughters who have recently graduated from college. Robert is fluent in English and Spanish, and he has a good command of French. In his free time, he enjoys outdoor activities, sports, and is an avid pickleball player.
